Nigeria Supports US Sanctions on Terror Financing Suspects

The Nigeria Sanction Committee has expressed support for the recent U.S. sanctions imposed on Mukhtar Muhammad Adamu and nine entities associated with terror financing. This decision by the U.S.

Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control is part of a broader effort to combat financial networks supporting the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP). The sanctions follow Nigeria's earlier designations of individuals and entities on June 18, 2026, based on extensive intelligence and financial investigations.

The sanctioned individuals include Ibrahim Yakubu Ogirima, Muktar Muhammad Adamu, Adamu Chiroma, Ibrahim Abubakar Abdullahi, Umar Usman Babangida, and Muham Adamu Hammajam, along with three companies linked to the Bureau de Change. The Nigerian government reiterated its commitment to ensuring that terrorist financing finds no safe haven within its financial system and will continue to collaborate with domestic and international partners to enhance national security.
