Nigeria Holds Bye-Elections In 16 Constituencies, IGP Orders Tight Security, Deploys Logistical Support

Nigeria conducted bye-elections in 16 constituencies across 12 states on Saturday, following the resignation or death of serving members of the national and state houses of assembly. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) organized the elections in Anambra, Edo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Ogun, Oyo, Adamawa, Kano, Kogi, Niger, Taraba, and Zamfara states.

To ensure security and a fair electoral process, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun ordered tight security measures in the affected states, including restrictions on vehicular movement on election day. The IGP deployed senior police officers to supervise the electoral process, banned security aides from polling booths, and emphasized compliance with operational protocols.

Citizens were assured of necessary security arrangements to exercise their voting rights without obstruction.
