ADC Backs Atiku Abubakar for 2027 Presidential Bid

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has endorsed former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi as its presidential and vice-presidential candidates for the 2027 election. Abdullahi, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, stated during an interview with News Central that Nigeria is a traumatised country requiring experienced political leaders.

He argued that prior political office should not disqualify individuals from seeking office again, emphasizing Atiku's experience as crucial for addressing Nigeria's current challenges, which include high levels of terrorism and banditry. Abdullahi compared Nigeria's situation to South Africa post-apartheid, where the African National Congress chose Nelson Mandela despite younger candidates being available.

He asserted that Atiku's political experience and Amaechi's energy would create a balanced leadership necessary to tackle the nation's issues, highlighting the significant loss of lives due to violence and the worsening economic conditions affecting Nigerians.
