PDP Group Advocates for Competence Over Zoning in Nigerian Presidential Elections

The Gbenga Hashim Solidarity Movement (GSHM), a group within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), emphasized the need for competence over zoning in Nigeria's presidential elections. The group argued that implementing zoning could worsen the party's crisis.

Tajudeen Hassan, the acting State Coordinator, highlighted the importance of unity within the PDP for the 2027 presidential election. The group opposed the recent decision by the National Executive Council of the PDP to zone the presidential ticket to the southern region, fearing it could divide the country further.

They believe that competency should be the primary criterion for selecting a presidential candidate to avoid alienating any section of Nigeria.
