NGF Announces Nigeria Open Golf Tournament Revival for 2027

The Nigeria Golf Federation (NGF) has officially announced the return of the Nigeria Open Golf Tournament after a 28-year hiatus, with the next edition set to take place from November 16 to November 20, 2027. The tournament, which last occurred in 1999, is expected to draw between 150 and 200 golfers from Nigeria and various countries, with participation anticipated from over 20 nations across Africa, Europe, and beyond.

NGF President, Otunba Olusegun Runsewe, emphasized the federation's commitment to organizing a high-quality event that meets international standards. The tournament will feature a 64-hole, four-day Pro-Am format with world ranking status and connections to the Amateur World Ranking.

The NGF is also in talks with Lakowe Golf Resort in Lagos as a potential venue. Runsewe highlighted the importance of establishing sustainable structures, including a new social media strategy and the adoption of the World Handicap System (WHS), to further internationalize golf in Nigeria.

Additionally, the federation is prioritizing youth development and coaching education to bridge the generational gap in Nigerian golf.
