ECOWAS Calls for Citizen-Focused Economic Policies

During a brief event marking the 25th anniversary of the ECOWAS Parliament in Abuja, Speaker Ibrahima Memounat called on Nigeria and other West African nations to pursue policies that deliver clear economic benefits to citizens and businesses. He emphasized the need for stronger collaboration with the private sector to boost trade, encourage innovation, and create jobs across the region.

The ECOWAS Parliament, which serves as the legislative arm of the ECOWAS organization, primarily provides advisory input on policies affecting member states. Memounat noted that the parliament's work involves citizens in the regional integration process and promotes economic cooperation among member states.

He announced plans for a series of programs across several West African countries, focusing on entrepreneurship, youth innovation, and cross-border trade. The event was attended by various private sector representatives, including Victoria Akai, who expressed interest in participating in the anniversary activities.
