UN Report: Nigeria 4th in Attacks on School Children Globally

Nigeria ranks 4th globally in the number of attacks on school children, with 41,370 incidents recorded by the UN in conflict zones. The UN Children and Armed Conflict Report highlighted a 45% increase in grave violations against children in 2024 compared to 2022, including killings, maiming, recruitment by armed groups, and sexual violence.

The report warned of the threats to individual lives and communities. Virginia Gamba, the UN Special Representative for Children in Armed Conflict, expressed concern over the trend of children being robbed of their childhood.

Nigeria, along with other countries like Israel, Palestine, Congo, Somalia, and Haiti, faces significant challenges in protecting children in conflict zones.
