Nigeria Strengthens Security Cooperation at Defence Chiefs Conference

Nigeria reaffirmed its commitment to global security cooperation during the African Defence Chiefs conference held in Luanda, Angola, from July 2, 2026. The delegation was led by Chief of Defence Staff Olufemi Oluyede.

The three-day conference brought together senior military leaders from across Africa and international partners to discuss strategies for addressing emerging security threats, enhancing regional stability, promoting economic development, and improving security cooperation. A statement issued by Samaila Uba, Director of Defence Information, noted that the conference, hosted by the United States Africa Command and the Angolan Armed Forces, focused on countering transnational threats and misinformation campaigns, leveraging innovative technologies such as drones and modern military operations.

Oluyede emphasized the need for Africa to develop resilient security architectures capable of responding effectively to current and emerging threats, including disrupting terror financing networks and curbing external support for violent extremist groups. The Nigerian Defence Chief also held bilateral meetings with fellow defence chiefs to deepen cooperation against security threats that transcend national boundaries.
