Nigeria Reaffirms Leadership in African Peace Initiatives

The Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to promoting peace, security, democratic governance, and sustainable development across Africa during a meeting with Ambassador Bankole Adeoye, the Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security of the African Union Commission. This meeting occurred on the margins of the African Union Executive Council Meeting.

Ambassador Adeoye praised Nigeria's contributions to the African Union Peace and Security Council over the past twenty-two years and encouraged Nigeria to maintain its leadership role. Discussions included the security situations in the Sahel, Guinea, Burkina Faso, and Sudan, as well as preparations for the upcoming Extraordinary Session of the African Union Assembly in Angola.

Ambassador Odumegwu-Ojukwu acknowledged Adeoye's support for Nigeria, especially regarding the European Union’s $21 million aid to the Multinational Joint Task Force. Both parties agreed on the importance of emerging technologies in conflict prevention and the need for stronger diplomatic capacities across Africa.
