Nigeria Reaffirms Commitment to OIC in Jeddah Session

On Thursday, during the 23rd Extraordinary Session of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria reaffirmed its commitment to the OIC as a strategic platform for promoting solidarity, peace, and development among member states. Sola Enikanolaiye, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, delivered Nigeria’s official statement, commending the OIC leadership for convening the session.

He noted that Nigeria's participation is influenced by its Islamic heritage, domestic diversity, and a commitment to multilateralism, peaceful dispute resolution, and respect for international law and the UN Charter. Enikanolaiye congratulated Ismaïl Ould Cheikh Ahmed on his election as the new OIC Secretary-General, emphasizing the significance of competence, integrity, experience, geographical balance, and consensus in the selection process.

He expressed Nigeria's readiness to collaborate with the new leadership and commended outgoing Secretary-General Hissein Brahim Taha for his service.
