Nigeria Advances Development Agenda at OIC Meeting

Nigeria is participating in the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers meeting in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Thursday, August 27. The delegation is led by Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.

Nigeria aims to strengthen partnerships on humanitarian response, youth empowerment, investment, and regional security, leveraging its membership in the 57-nation organization to advance national interests. The agenda is anchored on President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the administration’s four-D foreign policy doctrine: Demography, Development, Diaspora, and Democracy.

A significant aspect of Nigeria's agenda is the proposed establishment of a Nigeria-OIC Working Group on Humanitarian Affairs to enhance cooperation in addressing insecurity and humanitarian crises in the Lake Chad Basin and the Sahel. The meeting will also focus on economic diplomacy, presenting investment opportunities in sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, and oil and gas, while promoting youth development through vocational training and women’s empowerment initiatives.
