Nigeria's Aviation Sector Sees 10% Growth in Traffic

Nigeria's air transport sector achieved a 10% growth in passenger traffic, totaling 10.5 million passengers, according to Olubunmi Kuku, Managing Director and Chief Executive of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN). This growth positions Nigeria as the second-largest domestic passenger market in Africa.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) forecasts a 6% growth in passenger traffic for Africa by 2026, which is higher than the global average of 4.9%. Notably, Murtala Muhammed International Airport recorded an 11.8% growth in air traffic movement, ranking among Africa's top-performing airports.

The IATA's Africa and Middle East Vice President, Kamil Alawadhi, stated that Africa's passenger traffic is expected to double by 2044, with a projected annual passenger growth rate of 400 million. However, challenges such as high operational costs and the need for infrastructure investment remain significant for the aviation sector in Africa.
