Nigeria Sees Significant Drop in Polio Cases in Kano and Katsina States

Nigeria has made significant progress in the fight against circulating poliovirus type 2 (cVDPV2) in Kano and Katsina states. The Nigeria Economic Council (NEC) reported a notable decline in polio cases, with Kano achieving a 94% drop and Katsina recording an 88% reduction in cVDPV2 cases compared to the previous year.

Despite this progress, 13 new cases were detected, with 12 cVDPV2 cases and one cVDPV3 case found across several states. The NEC approved intensifying vaccination efforts to address the new cases.
