Nigeria Leads Africa in Crude Oil Exports to US in 2025

In 2025, Nigeria is projected to export 46.6 million barrels of crude oil to the United States, maintaining its position as the top African supplier, which accounts for 52.2% of Africa's total crude exports to the US. This figure reflects a decrease from 50.793 million barrels in 2024, marking a reduction of 4.175 million barrels or 8.2%.

Despite this decline in volume, Nigeria's share of the US crude market increased from 49.0% in 2024 to 52.2% in 2025. The overall US crude imports from Africa are expected to drop to 89.371 million barrels in 2025 from 103.631 million barrels in 2024, indicating a year-on-year decline of 14.260 million barrels or 13.8%.

The value of Africa's crude exports to the US also fell significantly, from $8.945 billion in 2024 to $6.816 billion in 2025, a decrease of $2.129 billion or 23.8%. This trend is primarily driven by weaker export volumes and softer prices among African suppliers.
