Nigeria Revenue Service Launches E-Invoicing System

The Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) announced the launch of a phased e-invoicing and fiscal monitoring system, marking a significant reform aimed at strengthening tax administration, improving transparency, and boosting voluntary compliance among businesses nationwide. This initiative is part of a broader effort to modernize Nigeria's tax infrastructure and enhance real-time transaction monitoring.

The system officially went live on August 1, 2025, following extensive stakeholder consultations and a pilot deployment that began in January 2025. The rollout will initially focus on large taxpayers, with plans to extend to medium and emerging taxpayer segments by November 2025.

The NRS will engage stakeholders in pilot tests before the full implementation. The introduction of the e-invoicing fiscal monitoring system is expected to reduce compliance costs and improve record-keeping accuracy.

However, smaller businesses may face short-term adjustment costs related to technology upgrades and staff training. As of August 2025, 1,000 companies representing 20% of 5,000 eligible firms commenced integration with the new platform.
