Nigeria and Russia Set for Friendly Match in 2026

Nigeria and Russia are set to clash in an international friendly match on October 6, 2026, at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium, confirmed by Nigeria’s FIFA Match Agent, Jairo Pachon of Eurodatasports. This encounter marks their second meeting in 16 months, following a 1-1 draw at Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium on June 6, 2025.

In that match, Nigeria's Semi Ajayi scored an own goal, giving Russia the lead, but Tolu Arokodare equalized for Nigeria in the second half. Despite not qualifying for the FIFA World Cup finals in the summer, Nigeria's Super Eagles retained the Afro-Caribbean Unity Cup in London and had a credible performance in friendlies against Poland and Portugal.

The Nizhny Novgorod Stadium, which has a capacity of 44,000, previously hosted matches during the 2018 FIFA World Cup. As of now, Nigeria is ranked 26th in the world, while Russia holds the 35th position.

The friendly will occur a week after Nigeria's AFCON qualifying match against Guinea Bissau on September 29, 2026, and four days after their opening match against Madagascar.
