Nigeria's Phone Snatching Rates Compared to UK and Cameroon

Tope Fasua, who serves as a special adviser on economic affairs to President Bola Tinubu, asserted that phone snatching is not a major issue in Nigeria when compared to countries like the United Kingdom and Cameroon. This statement was made during a discussion at a coffee hangout organized by the Kai Hiker Club in Abuja.

Fasua's comments were met with immediate mockery on social media, particularly after a video surfaced of a woman confronting him about the rampant phone robberies and the unaffordability of basic necessities in Nigeria. She linked the current safety situation to economic hardships, stating that people are not safe even when using ride-hailing services.

Fasua responded by downplaying the issue, suggesting that similar incidents occur abroad, and emphasized that the situation in Nigeria is improving. He argued that Nigerians are resilient and can adapt to their circumstances regardless of government performance.
