Nigeria's PCNGI to Launch 500 New CNG Stations Soon

Nigeria is on track to receive 500 new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) refuelling stations by the end of October, according to Ismael Ahmed, the Executive Chairman of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI). The first batch of stations has already been ordered.

Following this delivery, the government intends to place a second order, aiming to procure a total of 1,000 stations. This initiative builds on the previous commissioning of 500 stations through the Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund and follows a directive for an additional rollout.

Ahmed noted that while the stations will arrive, they cannot be immediately operational due to the need for construction, transportation, and connection. The government is currently assessing locations for deployment, focusing on economic factors such as vehicle volume and traffic levels.

Cities under consideration include Lagos, Kano, Abuja, Zamfara, Borno, Enugu, Anambra, and Lafia. Currently, Nigeria has the highest concentration of CNG stations in Abuja, with 26 operational outlets.
