Nigeria to Launch First Solid Miner Excel Award in 2026

Nigeria is set to host its inaugural Solid Miner Excel Award on May 14, 2026, at the Continent Hotel in Abuja. This event aims to spotlight the country's rapidly emerging mining sector and facilitate a shift away from oil dependency.

The theme of the event is "Unlocking the Future," and it is expected to convene policymakers, investors, diplomats, and industry leaders to examine opportunities within the sector. The award, endorsed by the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, seeks to recognize companies and individuals driving growth in areas such as lithium, gold, limestone, and rare earth minerals.

Dele Alak, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, emphasized the importance of promoting responsible, safe, and sustainable mining practices to strengthen transparency and investor confidence. Femi Da Silva, project coordinator, noted that the award aims to bring glamour and prestige to Nigeria's mining sector, which is poised to define the country's economic future.

The initiative comes at a time when the government is implementing reforms to formalize artisanal mining and improve safety standards.
