Nigeria Secures 89 EU Erasmus Scholarships for 2026

The European Union has awarded Nigeria 89 full Erasmus Mundus scholarships for the 2026 academic cycle, reaffirming Nigeria's status as Africa's leading beneficiary of this prestigious international scholarship program. The announcement was made by the European Union Ambassador to Nigeria, Gautier Mignot, during a pre-departure orientation held in Abuja.

A total of 163 Nigerian students have been admitted to the Erasmus Mundus master's program this year, with Nigeria ranking among the top five countries globally for scholarship admissions. This year's award represents an increase from 81 Nigerian recipients in 2025, contributing to a milestone of nearly 1,000 Nigerian scholarship beneficiaries since the program's inception in 2014.

Mignot emphasized the importance of the Erasmus Mundus program in enhancing global educational access and improving Nigeria's international educational standing. He encouraged scholarship recipients to return home and contribute to Nigeria's development.

Other officials, including Prof. Abdullahi Ribadu and Dr. Chinelo Nwosu, commended the EU's investment in Nigeria's human capital development.
