Nigeria, US Strengthen Security Cooperation After Washington Meetings

Following high-level engagements in Washington, Nigerian officials led by National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu met with senior US officials to enhance security cooperation. Discussions focused on countering extremist violence and protecting civilians in Nigeria.

The Nigerian delegation rejected allegations of genocide, emphasizing the need to address the root causes of violence. Both countries affirmed readiness to broaden security support, including intelligence cooperation and defense equipment access.

The US signaled willingness to provide humanitarian assistance and technical support for conflict prevention. The meeting aimed to establish a joint work group to coordinate security efforts and improve civilian protection measures.
