Nigeria-US Security Partnership Strengthens Through Capacity Building and Intelligence Sharing

The Defence Headquarters of Nigeria emphasized the focus on capacity building and intelligence sharing in the security partnership with the United States. This collaboration primarily aims to enhance the professional military education, intelligence sharing, and logistical support to address mutual security concerns, particularly terrorism and transnational threats.

Recent engagements included virtual briefings with the US Africa Command and high-level workgroup meetings in Abuja to strengthen coordination and improve joint efforts against violent threats. The Nigerian Ministry of Defence confirmed the presence of a small US team in the country, emphasizing respect for Nigeria's sovereignty within the existing bilateral framework.

Major General Samaila Uba highlighted the commitment to protecting Nigeria's territorial integrity and working as credible partners to enhance the country's security architecture. The partnership underscores a transparent and policy-driven approach aligned with constitutional provisions.

Both nations are focused on safeguarding Nigeria's sovereignty while enhancing security cooperation.
