Federal Civil Servants Demand Wage Arrears Payment

Federal civil servants in Nigeria have emphasized the necessity of a wage award due to harsh economic conditions affecting the country. Ibrahim Abba, a health worker, highlighted the delays in clearing wage arrears, stating that the wage award is no longer acceptable and that funds are needed to cushion the economic hardship.

Patrick Ugo urged the federal government to pay the outstanding two months' wage arrears, totaling N70,000 for April salaries. Sule Aliu called for a review of the minimum wage, suggesting that the current N35,000 is unrealistic and advocating for a permanent addition to monthly salaries.

Sani Garba stressed the importance of fulfilling obligations to civil servants to prevent labor agitation. The federal government has committed to clearing the remaining two months' arrears of N35,000 without further delay.

Bawa Mokwa, the Director of Press and Public Relations at OAGF, stated that payments are subject to available funds and that the government is working to implement policies regarding staff remuneration and welfare.
