Bukunmi Afolayan Wins 2026 South West Scrabble Title

Bukunmi Afolayan clinched the title at the 2026 South West Closed Scrabble Tournament, held on a Sunday in Ogun State, marking her as the first female champion from Osun State. The tournament comprised 15 rounds, where Afolayan secured 12 wins and 3 losses, accumulating a total of 655 points.

In a closely contested final rounds, she outscored Jamiu Kareem, who finished as the runner-up with 11 wins and 4 losses, and a cumulative score of 941 points. Afolayan faced significant pressure, especially in the last three rounds, but managed to maintain her composure to win the tournament.

She had prepared diligently for the competition, having previously participated in the Olubango Invitational, where she struggled, winning only three out of ten games. Afolayan expressed her happiness about the tournament's positive impact on students and the Scrabble community.
