Nigerian Army Expansion Tied to Economic Prosperity

On Tuesday, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, the Chief of Army Staff of the Nigerian Army, delivered a lecture at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies in Kuru, Plateau State, where he linked the ongoing expansion of the Nigerian Army to economic prosperity. He stated that the Army's expansion would enhance its operational reach and capacity to create a secure environment necessary for entrepreneurship and the Orange Economy, which includes arts, culture, music, film, and digital content.

General Shaibu noted that insecurity disrupts economic activities and undermines productivity, thereby linking national security directly to sustainable economic development. He explained that the establishment of additional Army formations is intended to broaden operational capabilities and improve responsiveness to security threats.

Furthermore, he called for collaboration among security agencies, government institutions, and stakeholders in the creative industry, asserting that national security is a collective responsibility.
