Nigerian-British Grandma Arrested with Cocaine at Airport

On June 28, 2026, a Nigerian-British grandmother was arrested at Lagos Airport while attempting to board a Virgin Atlantic flight to London. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, reported that a thorough search of her bag revealed 31 large wraps of cocaine, totaling 13 kilograms, concealed within plantain peels.

The elderly woman admitted full ownership of the recovered cocaine. In a separate incident on June 29, 2026, a 45-year-old PhD student from Universiti Putra Malaysia, Nwabuez Felix Onyeka, was arrested in Ekwusigo Local Government Area, Anambra State, with 5.80 kilograms of cocaine hidden in the walls of nine cartons of herbal drink.

This operation was part of a broader investigation that led to the interception of 36 parcels of cocaine. The NDLEA continues to intensify efforts against drug trafficking in Nigeria.
