Nigerian Government Warns Contractors on Road Projects

The Nigerian government, through the Federal Ministry of Works and Minister David Umahi, has issued a warning to contractors involved in the Abuja-Lokoja dual carriageway project, particularly those failing to meet performance standards. Umahi expressed dissatisfaction with the pace of work on the project, which includes critical sections such as the dual carriageway from Obajana Junction to Benin.

He emphasized that no section of the federal highway should remain closed for more than 14 days during construction and provided a 72-hour ultimatum for contractors to demonstrate visible progress. The minister acknowledged funding constraints that have reduced the scope of work on the 49.28-kilometer section.

He commended Geld Construct Company for its quality and pace of work, describing it as a model of professionalism. The project is currently under supervision to ensure proper expenditure justification and accountability.

Additionally, Umahi inspected ongoing work on two critical bridge projects along the corridor.
