Umahi Warns Contractors on Federal Road Project Delays

Engr. David Umahi, the Minister of Works, issued a strong warning to non-performing contractors managing federal road projects, emphasizing that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should not be held responsible for project delays.

During an inspection tour in Kogi and Edo states, Umahi expressed dissatisfaction with the slow pace of work on the Abuja-Lokoja dual carriageway, noting that funding constraints had reduced the scope of the project. He disclosed that certain sections of the road had not shown adequate progress, leading him to issue a 72-hour ultimatum for contractors to fulfill their obligations or risk contract termination.

Umahi commended JRB Construction Company for its quality work and urged other contractors to follow suit. He highlighted the deteriorating state of Nigeria's federal road network and the significant challenges inherited by President Tinubu.

The minister also called for greater accountability in project execution and proper justification of expenditures, stressing the need for tangible results in road development.
