Nigerian Government Threatens Takeover of Ibadan-Ilesha Road Contract

The Nigerian government, through the Ministry of Works, has issued a warning to the contractor handling the Ibadan-Ilesha expressway project for failing to meet specified requirements. Governor Umahi expressed dissatisfaction during an inspection tour, directing the immediate deployment of additional manpower and equipment to fast-track the project.

The government has threatened to reduce the contractor's scope of work if immediate palliative measures are not carried out on failed portions of the road. The Ibadan-Ilesha expressway, a major artery linking southwest and southeast Nigeria, has been a source of concern for motorists and residents due to its deteriorating condition.
