Nigerian Lawmakers Demand Telecom CEOs Address Service Issues

The House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee investigating the poor quality of telecommunications services in Nigeria has summoned the Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of major telecom operators, including MTN Nigeria, Airtel Nigeria, Globacom, and Mafab Communications Ltd. The committee has given them seven days to appear before it on October 28, 2026, following their failure to respond to previous invitations.
The committee, led by Chairman Mr. Olumide Osoba, expressed dissatisfaction with the telecom operators' disregard for the House, emphasizing the importance of their direct engagement to address subscriber complaints and operational challenges. The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has been directed to ensure compliance with the summons.
The committee also requires the operators to submit relevant documents by the scheduled date and account for the decline in service quality affecting millions of subscribers and businesses. Failure to comply may result in a summons for arrest.
