Omah Lay Claims Nigerian Music Industry Divided by Loyalty

Omah Lay, a Nigerian afrobeat singer, expressed in a recent interview with the American outlet Fader that the Nigerian music industry is split between loyalists of Davido and Wizkid. He noted that he even unfollowed both Wizkid and Burna Boy on social media, indicating a shift in his perspective on the industry.

Omah Lay emphasized that while Davido, Wizkid, and Burna Boy are considered the "big three" of afrobeat, the genre does not solely revolve around them. He mentioned that the relationships within the industry can be complex, and collaboration often feels like a stressful process.

Omah Lay also pointed out that Davido has many detractors due to his wealthy background, but he admires Davido's music and personality. He stated that the dynamics of the afrobeat scene require a reevaluation of old patterns as he prepares for the 2024 music landscape.
