Nigeria Resumes Onion Exports to Ghana After Suspension

The National Onion Producers, Processors and Marketers Association of Nigeria (NOPPMAN), led by President Aliyu Maitasamu, has announced the immediate resumption of onion exports from Nigeria to Ghana. This decision follows renewed engagements aimed at addressing challenges affecting cross-border trade, particularly at Kotoku Market.

NOPPMAN had previously suspended exports due to difficulties faced by Nigerian and Nigerien traders in the Ghanaian market, including issues with the reception and offloading of consignments. The association's decision to lift the suspension comes after consultations with stakeholders, including the ministries of trade from both countries and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

Maitasamu emphasized the need for Nigerian exporters to adhere to laws and trade procedures, while also urging Ghanaian stakeholders to ensure the safe and lawful movement of onion consignments. NOPPMAN aims to establish a sustainable framework for cross-border trade and encourages dialogue to resolve any disputes.
