Nigerian Teen Sets New 60m Hurdles World Record

Ja Ejiasian, a 16-year-old Nigerian athlete, achieved a remarkable feat by breaking the 60m hurdles world record at the French Indoor Championships held at Stade Couvert Jess Owen Val de Reuil. Ejiasian finished the race with a time of 7.43 seconds, surpassing the previous record of 7.48 seconds set by French starlet Sasha Zhoya in 2019.

This victory marks Ejiasian's second consecutive year of triumph in athletics, showcasing her Nigerian heritage while residing in France. In the final, which took place on the first day of the two-day championship, Ejiasian broke free from the field early in the race and stormed to the finish line, posting a record-breaking time.

Additionally, she set an African record, with her performance being the fastest time of the year in the 60m hurdles. The championships are expected to feature the long jump event on the following day.
