Umeh Warns Against AI Use in 2027 Elections Amid Glitch

Victor Umeh, the Senator representing Anambra Central in the National Assembly, cautioned against the reliance on Artificial Intelligence (AI) for the upcoming 2027 elections. He stated that Nigerians are anxious about the polls, particularly due to the unresolved glitch reported during the 2023 elections.

Umeh noted that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has not adequately explained this glitch, which raises concerns about their preparedness for 2027. He referenced INEC Chairman Joash Amupitan's discussions about using AI in elections, expressing worry that AI could be manipulated, leading to further complications.

Umeh highlighted the risks of AI, such as the potential for creating convincing fabricated content. He reiterated that the lack of clarity regarding the 2023 glitch contributes to uncertainty as the country approaches the next election cycle, urging that similar issues should not arise in 2027.
