On Saturday, the Nigerian government unveiled a list of 48 individuals and 12 entities alleged to be involved in terror financing, which has sparked public demands for immediate action. This list was published by the Nigeria Sanctions Committee on Comprehensive Disclosure and includes prominent figures such as Simon Ekpa, leader of a Finland-based faction of the Indigenous People of Biafra, and Tukur Mamu. The entities named include Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province, among others. Security experts have cautioned that failure to act on this list could further erode public trust in Nigeria's counter-terrorism efforts. The government has previously convicted 386 individuals in terror-related cases, with 508 prosecutions ongoing, yet attacks continue in various states, including Borno, Kebbi, Kwara, and Zamfara. Analysts emphasize that merely publishing names without subsequent enforcement actions risks being a symbolic gesture. Former security officials have highlighted the need for coordinated actions involving financial regulators and law enforcement to disrupt these networks effectively.
