Nigerians Urged to Take Responsibility for Future

During his 70th birthday celebration in Enugu, renowned Catholic priest and scholar Obiora Ike called on Nigerians to take greater responsibility for the country's development. He stressed that citizens must play an active role in shaping governance and holding leaders accountable.

Ike argued that the challenges facing Nigeria cannot be solely blamed on leadership, as the roles of citizens and followership are equally important. He criticized the apathy among citizens, noting that many do not engage in civic responsibilities such as voting or paying taxes, which undermines their ability to demand accountability from leaders.

Ike warned that this continued apathy would worsen the nation's problems. He urged Nigerians to take control of their destiny and expressed optimism about the country's future, citing significant potential for growth, infrastructure expansion, and Nigeria's presence on the global stage.
