Nigeria's Agricultural Transformation Driven by Innovation

On Nigeria Day at the 9th Africa Agricultural Science Week in Abuja, Senator Abubakar Kyari, Nigeria’s Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, declared that the country is experiencing a significant transformation in agricultural research, driven by science, innovation, and strategic investments. He emphasized that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has prioritized research and innovation in its agricultural transformation agenda, stating that “the change is not merely coming; indeed, the change is here.” Kyari delivered a keynote address titled “Progress on Agricultural Research in Nigeria: The Change is Here – Harnessing Science, Innovation and Strategic Investment for National Food Security,” where he noted that no nation achieves lasting agricultural prosperity without investing in science.

He highlighted Nigeria's recognition of the need for scientific knowledge to ensure future food security and mentioned the Renewed Hope Agenda, which positions agricultural research as a strategic national investment. Kyari also underscored the role of the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN) in coordinating agricultural research aligned with national development goals.
