FG Advocates Science-Driven Agriculture for Food Security

Abubakar Kyari, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, called on African countries to enhance investments in science, research, and innovation to transform the continent into a global hub for agricultural knowledge. Speaking at the 9th Africa Agriculture Science Week and the 10th General Assembly of the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa, Kyari highlighted that Africa's natural resources alone cannot ensure prosperity without knowledge and innovation.

He stated that the Nigerian government, under President Bola Tinubu, prioritizes agriculture in its Renewed Hope Agenda, linking food security to national security and economic stability. The government is focusing on expanding irrigation, improving access to quality seeds and fertilizers, and promoting digital agriculture.

Kyari also pointed out the importance of technology, including artificial intelligence and biotechnology, in revolutionizing agriculture. He stressed that Africa should not just adopt foreign innovations but aim to lead in developing technologies suited to its unique ecological and developmental needs.
