Nigeria's economy expanded by 4.43 percent year-on-year during Q2 2026, based on statistics disclosed by the National Bureau of Statistics and the Federal Ministry of Finance. This marks a substantial jump from Q1's 3.89 percent, exceeding the 4.23 percent recorded in the same quarter last year.
Finance Minister Taiwo Oyedele presented these statistics, which authorities viewed as evidence of sustained economic strengthening nationwide. Half-year performance through June 2026 demonstrated 4.16 percent in real gross domestic product expansion, surpassing the 3.68 percent achieved during H1 2025.
The Federal Ministry of Finance attributed this gain to broad expansion across multiple economic subsectors, particularly noting strong showings in manufacturing, agriculture, and services. Improved exchange rates alongside rising investor confidence have bolstered this momentum, government officials stated.
Federal leadership views these outcomes as advancing Nigeria toward its $1 trillion economy goal for 2030. The ministry noted that the nation strengthens its position as one of Africa's largest economic powers.
President Bola Tinubu emphasized converting macroeconomic achievements into concrete gains for citizens within Nigeria's development framework. Twenty-seven subsectors achieved expansion in the second quarter, though detailed sector-level figures remain absent from available records.
The federal government has implemented strategies to reach the $1 trillion target, with officials stressing that sustained macroeconomic equilibrium and strong investor sentiment underpin the Q2 performance metrics.
