Nigeria's Fertiliser Plants Surge to Over 90 by 2025

The Nigerian Agricultural Development Fund (NADF) reported that the number of fertiliser blending plants in Nigeria has surged from 4 in 2016 to over 90 by 2025. This growth is part of a strategy to boost agricultural productivity and enhance food security across the country.

During an event in Kaduna, NADF's Executive Secretary, Moham Ibrahim Dure, launched the distribution of 100,800 bags of free fertiliser to 25,200 smallholder farmers in the northwest region. This initiative is part of the Federal Government's Farm Input Support Programme (FISP), reflecting increased investment in local fertiliser production.

Dure emphasized that improving local production will provide farmers with better access to quality inputs, create jobs, and reduce dependency on imports. Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, praised the initiative as a significant step towards achieving President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's food security agenda, noting that Katsina received 20,160 bags of fertiliser for 5,040 farmers.

The programme aims to improve crop yields and stimulate rural economic growth.
