Police deny kidnapping claims tied to Lagos DCP Khan Salihu's death

Nigeria Police Force dismissed viral reports claiming Deputy Commissioner Khan Salihu was kidnapped before his June 15 death, calling the allegations entirely…

The Lagos State Police Command has firmly rejected claims that Deputy Commissioner of Police Khan Salihu was abducted prior to his death on June 15, 2026. The command's Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, issued a statement on Tuesday describing the reports as completely false and without factual basis.

According to the police account, Salihu, who served as the finance and administration officer at the Lagos State Police Command, briefly felt unwell and was promptly admitted to a hospital for medical attention. Medical personnel later confirmed his death despite efforts to save his life.

The command stressed that no criminal activity or abduction was involved in the circumstances surrounding his death. The Nigeria Police Force's Inspector General, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, conveyed condolences to Salihu's family and colleagues on behalf of the force.

In his remarks, the IGP characterized Salihu as a dedicated and disciplined officer whose administrative skills and commitment to duty significantly strengthened the efficiency of the Lagos command throughout his career. The police command urged the public to disregard the misleading narratives circulating online and cautioned media organizations against publishing unverified claims without consulting relevant authorities.

Officials emphasized that the entire body of reports suggesting foul play in Salihu's death lacked any credible foundation.
