Nigeria's Gas Output Reaches 1.43 Tscf in H1 2026

In the first half of 2026, Nigeria's gas output hit 1.43 trillion standard cubic feet (Tscf), as reported by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC). Notably, non-associated gas production surpassed associated gas for the first time, indicating a significant shift in output patterns.

Non-associated gas volumes reached 717.54 billion standard cubic feet (Bscf), compared to 708.70 Bscf of associated gas. Monthly production remained consistent, with January recording 241.71 Bscf and June closing at 238.49 Bscf.

The gas sector is increasingly viewed as a strategic asset for Nigeria's economic diversification, supporting domestic industrial expansion and power generation. Total gas utilization during this period was 1.32 Tscf, with a high utilization rate above 90%.

The country exported 563.18 Bscf of gas, reinforcing its position as a leading supplier of liquefied natural gas. Efforts to reduce gas flaring were also noted, with total flared gas amounting to 97.63 Bscf.
