Nigeria's NNPC Expands Gas Infrastructure for Energy Access

Nigeria, endowed with 210.54 trillion cubic feet of proven natural gas reserves, faces challenges in energy accessibility and affordability. The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, led by Engr.

Bashir Bayo Ojulari, is addressing these issues by expanding gas infrastructure. The Gas Master Plan, unveiled in January 2026, aims for daily production of 10 billion cubic feet by 2027 and 12 billion by 2030, catalyzing over $60 billion in investments.

Key projects include the Obiafu-Obrikom-Oben (OB3) and the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) pipelines, which will enhance supply for domestic and international markets. The OB3 pipeline, completed in April 2026, will supply 2 billion standard cubic feet per day, while the AKK will deliver 2.2 billion scf/day to the North.

Additionally, five mini-LNG plants launched in February 2025 in Ajaokuta will support energy sufficiency and job creation, with NNPC holding significant stakes in three of them.
