Nike Institute of African Heritage Opens at Lokoja University

The Nike Institute of African Heritage was officially opened at Federal University Lokoja, with Chief Morenik Okunday, popularly known as Mama Nike, being honored for her significant contributions to the creative industry and tourism. The ceremony was attended by the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof.

Gbenga Solomon Ibiley, who conferred upon Okunday the title of Honorary Professor of Art Practice. Kogi State Governor Ahm Usman Ododo, represented by Deputy Governor Joel Salisu Odiboh, unveiled the institute, highlighting its role in connecting the art world and promoting local stories.

The event also featured praises from Hajiya Fatimah Momoh, who acknowledged Okunday's efforts in creating a modern gallery that showcases Kogi's rich culture. Mama Nike, a renowned batik textile designer and founder of Nike Art Gallery, has been recognized for her impact on art education and empowerment for youth in Nigeria.

The initiative aims to attract more visitors to Lokoja, enhancing the region's cultural tourism.
