NiMet Calls for Private Investment in Climate Services

On Thursday, during the World Meteorological Day celebrations in Abuja, Prof. Charles Anosike, the Director General of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), called for increased private sector investment in weather and climate services across Nigeria and the wider region.

He highlighted the critical role of timely and accurate weather information in strengthening meteorological observation systems. Anosike emphasized the importance of investing in weather stations, remote sensing technology, data analytics platforms, and innovative observational tools to complement the national network and global recognition.

He stated that public-private collaboration is essential for achieving a robust and sustainable national observation system. Anosike urged stakeholders to promote strategic partnerships, improve data exchange, and encourage innovation in meteorological technology.

He reiterated that every weather station installed enhances the understanding of atmospheric dynamics and strengthens predictions of future weather and climate events, underscoring the theme "Protect Tomorrow" as a call to action for investment today to safeguard the future.
