NIS Enhances Border Security with Advanced Technology

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) is deploying advanced technology to strengthen border security and curb irregular migration and human smuggling across the country's borders. In an interview on Wednesday in Abuja, NIS spokesperson Mr.

Akinsola Akinlabi disclosed that the service has recorded significant success in detecting and preventing illegal movements of persons at land borders, attributing these achievements to sustained border patrol operations and surveillance mechanisms. The NIS has been able to intercept irregular migrants attempting to leave or enter the country through unauthorized routes, significantly reducing the number of people using land routes for irregular migration.

Akinlabi emphasized the complexity of managing irregular migration, which requires collective action beyond enforcement measures. He noted that the NIS is committed to public enlightenment campaigns to discourage people from embarking on dangerous migration journeys.

The service is also progressing with its e-border solution project, with the first phase completed and preparations for the second phase underway, aimed at further strengthening border surveillance capabilities.
