Nigeria's e-Visa Blocks 300 High-Risk Entrants in 90 Days

The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has reported that its newly implemented e-visa platform has successfully identified and blocked over 300 individuals flagged as high-security risks within the first 90 days of operation. Dr.

Magdalen Ajayi, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, announced this achievement during an international roundtable focused on government reform in Nigeria's immigration and border management sector, held in Lagos. The e-visa system was deployed in September 2025 and is designed to fortify Nigeria's borders against advanced criminal techniques.

Dr. Ajayi emphasized the system's role in demonstrating the administration's commitment to reform, noting improvements in airport clearance times and the efficiency of the e-gate process, which now allows Nigerian travelers to clear customs in 40 seconds or less.

Mr. Adeola Ajayi, Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), highlighted the integration of immigration data to strengthen preemptive intelligence gathering, significantly reducing blind spots at entry points.

The initiative aims to balance security with economic growth and facilitate trade and tourism.
