Shaibu Congratulates Abdullahi as NBBF President in 2026
Comrade Philip Shaibu, the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Institute for Sports, congratulated Dr Mustapha Abdullahi on his election as President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation during the federation's elective congress held in Abuja on October 15, 2026. Shaibu urged Abdullahi to consolidate existing achievements and implement reforms to enhance basketball development in Nigeria.
Abdullahi, who is also the Director-General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria, won the presidency by securing 40 votes against former D’Tigers captain Olumide Oyedeji, who received eight votes, while Ejike Ugboaja received no votes. Ugo Udezue was elected as vice-president.
Shaibu commended the outgoing president, Engr. Musa Kida, for his service and the peaceful transition. He called for a focus on grassroots development, improved administration, and stronger stakeholder cooperation.
The election occurred amid a legal challenge regarding the electoral process, raising concerns about the conduct of the federation's electoral arrangements.
