NITDA Launches National Sovereign Cloud Initiative in Nigeria

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has unveiled the National Sovereign Cloud Initiative (NSCI) in Nigeria, marking a significant step towards establishing a trusted cloud ecosystem. NITDA signed three regulatory documents: the National Cloud Computing Guideline, the National Cloud Technical Guideline, and the National Digital Infrastructure Assurance Framework (NDIAF).

Additionally, the National Cloud Investment Strategy was introduced to provide a comprehensive framework for cloud adoption and investment. NITDA Director-General Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi emphasized the importance of cloud infrastructure as a national asset that supports various sectors, including digital government and financial services.

The initiative aims to protect Nigeria's digital sovereignty while fostering innovation and economic growth. Implementation will start immediately with the formation of a Sovereign Cloud Governance Committee, and by October 2026, a national digital regulatory platform will be operational to oversee cloud service providers in Nigeria.

This initiative comes amid rising cybersecurity threats affecting government institutions and businesses.
