NITDA Launches Taskforce for Nigeria's Sovereign Cloud

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) inaugurated the National Sovereign Cloud Initiative Implementation Taskforce (NSCI-ITF) to facilitate the implementation of Nigeria's sovereign cloud initiative. This taskforce will coordinate efforts to strengthen Nigeria's digital sovereignty and develop a secure cloud infrastructure ecosystem.

The initiative follows the establishment of regulatory, technical, assurance, and investment instruments designed to support cloud adoption and data governance. The NSCI-ITF's priorities include regulatory alignment, institutional coordination, and monitoring implementation while promoting indigenous capacity and investment.

The initiative aims to expand domestic cloud capacity, increase local participation, and attract sustainable private investment, positioning Nigeria as a trusted hub for cloud infrastructure in Africa. Additionally, a Joint Technical Committee was formed with the Budget Office of the Federation to focus on fiscal and investment structures necessary for the initiative's success.

The push for sovereign cloud infrastructure has intensified as the government seeks greater control over data and digital resources.
